All of “us” who read and review here are fans, well, most of us. This second production is a solid and great “episode” like we are all used to and closes out the Baal “timeline” excellently. I can’t help but notice the “dynamic” feature film style sound track and enhanced visual and sound effects, full, powerful, nice. At the close of season 10 on SciFi web site, Baal was voted the “best villian” and he does not disappoint with his charm, arrogance and style we all “love” to hate.

Continuum brought to mind SG-1 episodes 1969 and Moebius (pt 1 & 2) where SG-1 finds themselves “stuck” in an alternative timeline, but what’s different this time is we get to see everyone from the series in brief guest shots, disappear in a puff of smoke or die this time… all but one and irrevocable outcomes of the timeline they are in, but we all know Sam will “fix it” again.

A couple of my favorite things about the episode are the new micro-DHD that snaps onto the Stargate like a magnet, syncs up and allows Teal’c and Baal to dial the gate without the old fashioned computer or manual dialing we’ve seen from past shows when no full DHD is available. Indeed, Teal’c snaps it on the gate and you can see the key pad of symbols as he dials. The second favorite is the scene in Baals “time machine” that is a tri-lateral platform with Stargate on one ramp, rings on the second and the third has the computer control panel to monitor “solar flare” events and Sam gives us the quick and concise rundown on how it works. Rings, Stargate and “time jumps” all in one place, cool.

[...]wow, I got “censored”! I had put in some of my favorite “action” scenes here and background military units that participated in Continuum, but let’s try it again and just point out that you can [...] for the SSN Alexandria photos March of 2007 ICEX-07 just add the 3 w’s on the front and dot htm on the back of this url to see photos and not get this edited out again: navsource.org/archives/08/08757 So they filmed the Continuum scenes with the US and British Navies after this exercise. Additionally, the Oregon Air National Guard 173d Fighter Wing provided the F-15Bs and flight suits our “heros” wear, you can “match the shoulder patch” with google for orklam.ang.af.mil to learn more, they flew to Vancouver BC for filming.

On a sad note, as I watched I paid attention to General Hammond, now promoted to Lieutenant General (3 Stars) for this episode as Don S. Davis died in June 2008 of a heart attack and we won’t see him again, IF, rumors are true and future productions are coming.

As I said, everyone dies or disappears as the altered timeline that Baal starts takes effect, everyone but one person, Cam. I love Continuum, it’s better than AoT, but in the end there is one huge “gap” I can’t get over. In Baal’s “time machine” lab Sam finds a suitable earth time to “jump” to using the Stargate, but it’s 1929, not 1939, 10 years too early, but Cam ends up being the only one to get through the Stargate. In the next scene, I guess he waits 10 years to be in 1939 on the ship, he has a change of cloths, a beard and looks like his grandfather and he’s in the cargo hold with the crated Stargate waiting for Baal to arrive so he can successfully interrupt the plan to hijack the Stargate. They could have easily added 2-5 minutes to fill this transition in time and let us know how he got there and develop something from Baals lab to his current time. Nevermind the fact that after it’s over, he sees his grandfather, he’s “stuck” in 1939 and they leave it there…

I am just happy they keep making these and this has the look and feel of the best episodes from the series, with good enhancements, solid story and… no one should complain if they are a “true” fan.
